CHILD SAFETY

Below are some highlights from our Kirby Woods child protection policies. We have found these items to be the most frequently requested information, as well as those that bring the most peace to parents like you. We do our very best to follow the best standards and practices for the safety and well-being of our kids. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Pastor Caleb with any specific concerns not addressed below.

All Kirby Kids volunteers must be:

  1. An active member of the church for at least 6 months.

  2. Background checked every 3 years.

  3. Trained in the Ministry Safe  sexual abuse awareness course.

  4. Trained on our Policies and Procedures.

All regular programs abide by these safety standards:

  1. Each class must have two unmarried, unrelated adults present.

  2. All kids must check in using Planning Center. To “check out,” your claim sticker must match your child’s sticker at pickup.

  3. The Kids' Entrance doors are unlocked during pickup and dropoff times and locked in between. If you arrive late, ring the bell, and a volunteer will let you in.

  4. The inner doors to the nursery and preschool hallway will be propped open during pickup and dropoff times but locked in between. These inner doors will have a code only known by trusted volunteers, and the code will be changed at least annually.

  5. Classrooms and common areas are under 24/7 video recording.

  6. Kirby Woods has a paid and volunteer security team on campus. At least one volunteer with a radio is permanently stationed in the preschool hallway, able to respond quickly to suspicious behavior in the Kids' wing.

  7. We strive to be a “nut-free” kids' area, meaning snacks will not contain peanuts or tree nuts (common allergens). Any child with allergies will have that noted on their name tag and told to the teachers in the classroom.

  8. Diaper Changing and Bathroom Policies:

    • Diapers may only be changed by an adult and must have another adult present at the time of changing.

    • Adults may help children (toddlers & preschool) in the classroom bathroom but must notify another adult and leave the door propped halfway open for the classroom bathroom.

    • Older children will walk to the bathroom, and the leader will stand in the doorway with the door propped open.
